February 17, 2012 By: florenceblogger Category: Uncategorized

In the birthplace of Renaissance art, where the sensible and cultivated spirit has to move with extreme care to avoid infection with Stendhal Syndrome and succumb to such beauty, in Florence, the lucky travelers have a new route for the enjoyment and delight of senses sponsored by the Bounarroti House. Located in the number 70 Ghibellina road in a large Tuscan palace, it opens to the public to exhibit its permanent collection (among those there is the famous “Madonna of the Stairs”), consisting of works of all kinds, done by artists from the “Cinquecento”. The exhibition contains sculptures, drawings, paintings and objects of the youth stage of who is probably one of the ten artists masters of all time: Michelangelo Bounarroti. A varied program of temporary collections, live concerts and workshops, conferences, publications and so on complements this exhibition.

The managers of this illustrious house were not satisfied with the busy schedule that takes place in the palace of the Ghibellina road and proposed a new project, under the suggestive title of “In the name of Michelangelo.” Since I won’t be able to explain it in detail, I leave here the link where the interested reader can get more information: . “In the name of Michelangelo” is more than a tour or a scheduled visit. Taking advantage of artistic density of Florence, where a building is a museum, next building is a church with breathtaking works and then a palace open to the public; at Bounarroti House, you will be charged a single ticket to visit of two unique monuments: the abovementioned palace and the Church of the Holy Cross, Gothic jewel located in Michelangelo’s home district. Only eighty meters away the two destinations. We recommend you that if you intend to enjoy these exhibitions, visit the web page above where there is a published schedule review, with changes and any important event to consider.

Great works in Rome, especially in the Vatican, created by the great Michelangelo make us forget that the artist began his career at the hands of the Medici of Florence, and was in this amazing city, by then, shaking his somnolence of the Middle Ages, where he made his first drawings, paintings, sculptures and architectural projects. Apart from the collection, Bounarroti House and the Church of the Holy Cross, no traveler in search of beauty that art gives, could leave Florence without visiting the Laurentian Library, where the creator put forth all his architectural and sculptor skills to design this building of classic proportions to keep balance to, at first, and explain, later, over ten thousand codices (manuscript books before printing) belonging to the powerful Medici.
